The Best and Worst Airports for Cheap International Flights

When it comes to obtaining a great deal on a flight abroad, the airport from which you depart is important. The ability of a traveller to save money or obtain a discount on foreign flights is greatly influenced by competition and frequency. To determine which airports in the United States offer the most and least frequent deals on economy class international flights, the Scott’s Cheap Flights team examined commercial airports in metro areas with at least 700,000 people, collecting data on how many deals it sent to SCF members for cheap flights departing from each airport in the previous year. Here are the top five and bottom five airports for amazing discounts in 2022.

The Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) (LAX)

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is a hub or focus city for the majority of major U.S. carriers, surpassing international airports in Miami (MIA), San Francisco (SFO), and Boston (BOS). According to SCF, more than 60 international airlines serve LAX, with direct flights to more than 90 destinations in 46 countries. As a result, LAX sees an average of 34 international economy class flights every month.

Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)

Despite recently losing its New York City airport status, Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey is home to dozens of airlines that offer direct flights to over 70 international destinations, including Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Asia, Central and South America, among others. As a result, frequent discounts on flights out of the United States are available.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)

Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD), a hub for two of the world’s largest airlines, American and United, offers nonstop flights to more than 50 international locations. According to SCF, this, combined with the competition and frequency of flights to the remainder of the United States, results in a plethora of excellent discounts.

Will Rogers Airport (OKC)

Will Rogers Airport (OKC) is the fifth-worst airport in the US for affordable international flight deals. SCF discovered only 88 offers from OKC in the last year, although the airport does service as many as 30 domestic destinations around the country, including short flights to hubs like Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) (ORD).

Sacramento International Airport (SMF)

Sacramento International Airport (SMF) produced only 85 flight deals in the previous 12 months and currently only offers direct international flights to Canada and Mexico. SCF suggests that tourists take a rapid connection to hubs in areas like Los Angeles, Denver, Dallas, or Las Vegas for a greater chance at discounts.
