It is said that anything must occur three times before it can be considered a norm.
According to Business Insider, since the pandemic began in March 2020, the country’s three largest domestic airlines (American Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines) have stopped their service to 59 of the country’s smaller airlines.
This isn’t just a trend, it’s a number that has become a disturbing regularity. A perfect storm with a shortage of pilots and staff and an irresistible return of the air masses, the situation was building well before the pandemic but has been worsened by the Covid-19’s impact.
Most of the service cuts have affected the airline’s regional hubs, which have nonetheless played a key role in moving passengers to larger hubs. According to Business Insider, Delta has suspended service at 13 airports, American at 14 airports and United at 32 facilities.
