According to the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo, Mexico’s state of Quintana Roo recorded more than 1 million air travellers for the first time ever during September (CPTQ for its acronym in Spanish).
The total number of people arriving by air at the airports in Cancun, Cozumel, and Chetumal in September, traditionally regarded as the slowest month of the year, set a new record.
According to data from the CPTQ’s Tourism Market Intelligence System, the Mexican Caribbean exceeded one million passengers due to its air connectivity, which included 7,100 flights from 101 locations in 25 countries globally.
Last September, the agency highlighted Cozumel’s growth, which reported an 85.5 percent rise in air visitor arrivals compared to 2019.
From January through September of this year, more than 11 million passengers landed in Quintana Roo, a 15.6% increase over the previous year.
According to the CPTQ, Cancun International Airport stood out for having the biggest growth in international passenger movement in the country, contributing to the Mexican Caribbean area’s status as a leader in international tourism.
The Cancun terminal climbed by 15.6% on October 8 compared to pre-pandemic levels.
The airport moved 22.3 million passengers in the first nine months of 2022, which is 3 million more than in 2019.
