Thanksgiving Travel Destinations Preferred by American Travellers

This year’s Thanksgiving Day celebrations will take place in both typical and unconventional locations, according to American visitors.

Allianz Partners has officially issued its ‘Top 10 Thanksgiving Destination Index,’ which reveals which domestic and international destinations are Americans’ favourites for 2022. To uncover the answers, the leading travel insurance provider examined over 2 million aircraft itineraries scheduled for the Thanksgiving holiday travel period.

It’s certainly no surprise that New York City, which is traditionally a highlight of the holiday season, is the top domestic destination on Americans’ autumn travel plans. Seattle came in second, which is not surprising given how many outdoor enthusiasts go to the forested Pacific Northwest.

Orlando climbed a crucial five spots from 2021 to third place, illustrating a broader trend toward warm-weather locations. Aside from that, Orlando acts as a gateway to popular entertainment parks, and with its cruise port resuming normal operations, a large number of cruise passengers will be travelling through.

Fort Lauderdale, another Florida favourite, returns to the Top 10 in 10th position after dropping off the list in 2021, while Washington, D.C., in ninth place, makes the cut for the first time in five years. Other significant US cities in the Top 10 include Boston, Atlanta, Phoenix, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Dallas.

While Turkey Day isn’t recognised in other nations, Americans who prefer an abroad getaway for the holiday continue to favour Mexican hotspots. Cancun, San Jose Del Cabo, and Puerto Vallarta are the top three international Thanksgiving destinations for Americans this year.

London and Paris, two European favourites, also made the list, arriving in fourth and ninth position, respectively. The following four positions were taken by Caribbean beach vacation locations, with Montego Bay ranking first, Nassau sixth, Punta Cana seventh, and Oranjestad (Aruba eighth).

“Whether repeating traditions at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City or rejoining with family on the beaches of Mexico, Thanksgiving travel tends to generate a deep sense of nostalgia for Americans, “Allianz Partners USA’s head of external relations, Daniel Durazo, agrees. “Whatever your destination, the freedom to travel is something to be thankful for, and it deserves to be protected.
